Chlor-Alkali Process
Main raw material of chlor-alkali process is Sodium Chloride solution. It is electrolyzed in order to get Sodium hydroxide (Caustic Soda), hydrogen and chlorine. The process has high energy consumption. It is necessary to find a use of these hydrogen and chlorine produced. Mainly hydrogen is used to produce hydrochloric acid. Following products can be produced according to the customer request.
-
Liquid Chlorine
-
Hypochlorite
-
Hydrochloric Acid
-
Hydrogen
-
Caustic Soda - %32
-
Caustic Soda - %50 (after concentration)
Membrane cell electrolysis is the most common technology used in chlor-alkali process.
Overall reaction for electrolysis of brine can be written as follows;

in Izmir/Turkey
Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH)
